About the book

RebelText: Essentials of Development Economics is an alternative to traditional development economics textbooks. It was written as a compact book for an upper-division undergraduate development economics class, and it comes with its own “living” website. This book is unique in making cutting-edge development economics research from journal articles and other sources accessible to undergraduates.

You can use the book and website as part of a self-paced, independent-study course or as a companion for graduate-level texts. We strive to present best practices and state-of-the-art methods for doing intermediate development economic work. The knowledge in these pages should poise anyone for further study or to venture out into the real world with essential development economic concepts and tools, along with a feel for the subject that is not found in other undergraduate texts.

Ed Taylor is a professor in the Agricultural and Resource Economics Department at the University of California, Davis, California.
